Health Mela at village Thial concludes


The 20th annual Health Mela which was organized at village Thial by Sh. Durga Dass Sharma Memorial Society (Regd.) in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services Jammu concludes successfully. During the Health Mela approximately 2000 patients were examined in the different specialities by the doctors from the Health Department in different OPDs including 255 patients in Surgical, 226 in Medicine, 201 in Gynecology, 549 in Eye, 128 in Paediatric, 152 in Orthopaedics, 52 in ENT and 443 in ISM OPD. 135 Ultrasonography were also conducted.

The major highlight of the camp was 101 eye surgeries which included 98 cataract surgeries with distribution of free spectacles by Dr. Ashok Sharma, Senior Consultant Eye Department Govt. Medical College Jammu and his team. The specialists who rendered their services in the Health Mela included Dr. M.L Gupta (Physician Specialist), Dr. Arun Mahajan (Physician Specialist), Dr. Poonam Mahajan (Gynaecologist), Dr. Ashok Sharma (Eye surgeon), Dr. Manisha Langar (Orthopaedician) Dr. Jyotsana (Gynaecologist), Dr. Shalinder (ENT specialist), and other doctors and paramedics of block majalta and District Hospital Udhampur.

The Health Mela is organized every year by Sh. Durga Dass Sharma Memorial Society (Regd.) under the patronage of Mrs. Mansha Sharma and her family members. The volunteers from the village and the adjoining areas also participated in the Health Mela to make it a successful event. The arrangements for the Health Mela including boarding, lodging etc. is provided by the Society including the langar services for the patients, attendants and the staff members attending the camp.

The Health Mela was inaugurated on 9th November 2013 at 10.00 am by Sh. Harshdev Singh, Hon’ble MLA Ramnagar constituency in presence of senior heath functionaries from district and State level. While speaking on the occasion the Hon’ble MLA Ramnagar constituency appreciated the efforts of the Society for their selfless service for last two decades in the region and hope that the members will continue serving people with same zeal and dedication.

The Director Family Welfare & RCH and other prominent people of the district also spoke during the inaugural function. The closing ceremony of the Health Mela was held under the chairmanship of Sh. B D Sharma Chairman, Sh. Sh. Durga Dass Sharma Memorial Society (Regd.) who thanked doctors, paramedics and the people of the village and the adjoining areas for voluntarily render their services for this great cause.

The 16th Health Mela concluded at village Thial on 29th August 2011 with the discharge of all the 119 patients, who were admitted and operated for eye ailments by team of doctors and paramedics led by Dr Ashok Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Eye, Government Medical College.

The Health Mela is organized every year by Durga Dass Sharma Memorial Society in association with Directorate of Health Services, Jammu.

The services of Physician, Surgeon, Orthopeadicians, Peadiatricians, Gynaecologists, Skin Specialist, Eye/ENT Specialists, Radiologist, Lab, X-ray, ECG and Dental surgeon are provided to the people of block Majalta and adjoining areas. In addition, cataract surgeries are also performed at Primary Health Centre Thial.

More than 1500 patients were examined and28 aug provided free medicine and 119 cases were operated for eye aliments.

Health Mela was attended by leading specialists like Dr K B Gupta (Paed), Dr Sunil Kotwal (ENT), Dr T R Raina (BB), Dr Madan Lal Gupta (Phy), Dr Makhan Lal Gupta (Phy), Dr Kulwant Shekhar (Ortho), Dr Arun Mahajan (Phy), Dr Manisha Langar (Radiology), Dr Narinder Khullar (ENT), Dr Poonam Mahajan (Gynae), Dr Jyotsana (Gynae) and others.

MLC Ravinder Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Samba, B D Sharma, Chairman of the Society, Dr Yashpal Sharma, Mission Director, NRHM J&K, Director Health Services Jammu, Director Family Welfare, J&K, Director Horticulture, Controller Drugs, Food and Control Organization, Chief Medical Officer Udhampur, Er Anil Sharma, general secretary of the society and other senior officers from Health, Horticulture and Floriculture Department were present during the Mela.

Today on 3rd May, 2008 "Health Mela" was organized at village Thial which was inaugurated by Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, Hon'ble Minister for Health & Medical Education, J&K. He was accompanied by Sh. Shiv Dev Singh, General Secretary, Pradesh Congress committee and other various senior congress leaders.

Dr. Santosh Sharma, District Immunization Officer, Dr. A.M. Bhat Block Medical Officer Majalta were also present on the occasion. The mela was organized by Shri Durga Dass Sharma Memorial Society in association with the Directorate of Health Services Jammu. The public of Village Thial and adjoining areas were provided Health Care Facilities which included services of Physician, Surgeon, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Gynae & Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Eye, ENT Surgeons, Dermatologist, Dental Surgeon and the diagnostic services like X-ray, ECG, Ultrasound, Blood Sugar Testing, etc. More than 50 patients were registered for cataract surgery, which will be operated today and tomorrow by Dr. Ashok Sharma, Lecturer, Eye Department, Govt. Medical College Jammu and Dr. Nirmal Gupta, B-Grade Specialist, District Hospital, Udhampur alongwith other team members. Dr. H.S. Sudan, Professor of Dermatology and Dr. Sunil Kotwal, Professor of ENT, Govt. Medical College Jammu also attended the camp. Dr. Makhan Lal Gupta and Dr. Arun Mahajan, Physician Specialists, Dr. Poonam Mahajan , Gynaecologist, Dr. Paramjit Singh, Surgeon, Dr. K.K. Kudyar, Orthopaedician, Dr. Manisha, Radiologist, Dr. Kamaljeet Kaur, Paediatrician, Dr. Sanjeet Parihar, ENT Specialist, Dr. Vinod Kumar Sudan, Dental Surgeon, Dr. Pankaj Gupta and Dr. Dimple Gupta from PHC Thial and other doctors and paramedics of Block Majalta also attended the camp. The facilities for free Blood Sugar testing were organized by Mr. Rohit Nargotra from Life Scan, Johnson & Johnson. More than 200 patients were tested for Blood Sugar.

About one thousand five hundred patients in different specialities were examined and provided free medicines. Forty six patients were operated for cataract and provided free boarding lodging and spectales.

This "Health Mela" is organized every year in the memory of Late Shri Durga Dass Sharma was noted and well known Social Worker of this area, by his family members who are also the trustees of Shri Durga Dass Memorial Trust. Trustees includes Smt. Mansha Sharma Patron, other members are sons of Sh. Durga Dass Sharma namely Sh. Bishan Dass Sharma Chairman, Er. R.C. Sharma, Secretary/ CEO, KVIB, J&K, Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, Kakryal, Dr. Ashok Sharma, Lecturer, Ophthalmology Department, Govt. Medical College Jammu and Er. Anil Sharma, NRI.

Besides the Incharge Principal of Boys High School, Thial, Mr. Anil Kumar, Mr. Vinod Kumar and other teachers, students and the volunteers took active part in organizing this mega event. IEC activities including banners / posters and educational medical were provided by the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu.

Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, appreciated the efforts of Society. He appreciated the Organisors for this great event and assured that the problems of the village like provision of funds for construction of new Primary Health Centre building, provision of driver for ambulance and the staff for the newly created Higher Secondary School will be taken care immediately. Sh. Shiv Dev Singh, Udhampur speaking on the occasion appreciating the efforts of the Society for organsing such mega events for the welfare of the people and hope that such activities will be continued in future also.
